分析：enlightenment在詞典中的意思確實是“啟蒙”、“啟發(fā)”，但是在這里如果原封不動地照搬，不僅生硬，且不符合原文意思，這里就需要我們把它的引申意義找出來，即“把問題搞清楚”。

分析：save可以用作動詞，但是如果作為動賓結構的話，它的主語又是什幺呢？perhaps more than those of any other people和perhaps more than thirty people是兩種不同的結構，后者是名詞短語，可以作主語；但是前者只是一個形容詞短語，不能做主語。其次，如果by a regard for precedent是save的狀語的話，前面也沒有必要用逗號隔開。實際上，這個by a regard for precedent是和were regulated組成的一個被動結構：were regulated by…。這樣，save這一部分就不是一個句子，只是一個修飾成分。事實上，save是個介詞，作“除了”解，相當于but，或是except。
