9.2 External
9.2.1 The external control cables will be black color, minimum cross-section 1.5 mm2, Insulation
Class 0.60/1.0 kV, Stranding Class 4 or 5 and insulation flame retardant PVC.

9.2.3 The MV cables will be black color, Insulation Class 8.7/15 kV, Insulation XLPE / PVC.
9.2.4 The maximum cross-section for (multicore or singlecore) is 240 mm2, as well for medium as
for low voltage, More than one cable per phase shall be used when there is need of larger
cross-sections, always respecting the maximum limit of 240 mm2. Cables above 120 mm2
shall have stranding class 5.
9.2.5 All motor supply cables must be 4-core (3 phases + ground) with Stranding Class 4 or 5.
9.2.6 All conductors (cores) of a multicore cable must have their numbering and identification
written on the insulation itself.
9.2.7 The busbars must comply with the same rules as the cables.
9.2.8 For better use of the reels a CUTTING PLAN must be prepared for the cables.
9.2.9 The cables for signaling must be shielded. In the case of cables for external signals, should
it be impossible to use polarized cables with red (positive) and blue (negative), then a pair
with (positive) and black (negative) shall be provided.
9.2.10 Mending cables, mainly power cables, must be avoided as much as possible. Should this be
unavoidable, and then the mend shall preferentially be executed in a covered and easily

ELECTRICAL, AUTOMATION AND INSTRUMENTATION SYSTEM -SPECIFICATION AND INSTALLATION GUIDELINE VS1
10 TRAYS
10.1 The trays must be of the "ladder" type, "Hot deep" galvanized, manufactured and applied
according to norm NBR 6323.
10.2 All standardized widths are allowed, however with standard height 100 mm.
10.3 The trays must be individual for each cable class (HV - MV - 460 V - 220 V -
instrumentation/signals, etc.), assembled in this order from bottom to top.
10.4 Cables 460 V and 220 V may share the same tray by using a separator. HV and MV cables
may not share a tray; the same applies to signal cables. Special cases must previously be
discussed with the VSB team.
10.5 The trays must preferably be installed in the horizontal position, with their opening upward.
However, in environments where there is risk of inflammable materials accumulating on
them, they must be installed in the vertical position (opening to the side) and must also be
provided with extra protection in more critical situations.
10.6 The highest tray of a route and/or the widest tray must always be covered.
10.7 All trays of a route passing through a local, where it is possible that material be spilled over
them (ex. under a belt conveyor), must be covered 2 m before and 2 m after the
transposition.
10.8 The routes must always be designed considering access facility and safety of persons and
trays. Installing the trays near heat sources, pressurized lines or inflammable materials
should be avoided. Should this prove impossible, the trays must be provided with adequate
protection.
10.9 The minimum distance between 2 tray beds on a same route may never be less than 250
mm according to the figure below.
| Upper tray
\ 250 mm I
| Lower tray ^ r
10.10 The use of non-metallic trays / channels is allowed for installations in protected locals at high positions, as long as the general safety is not
put at risk.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION
ELECTRICAL, AUTOMATION AND INSTRUMENTATION SYSTEM -SPECIFICATION AND INSTALLATION GUIDELINE VS1
10.11 All trays must be grounded by a bare copper cable running along the route and spaced
connections between the diverse tray levels.
10.12 See standard VS-N-010-1 concerning nomenclature and identification of cables.
11 DUCTS AND CONDUITS
11.1 The conduits must be of the heavy type, thick-walled, thread preferentially NPT, "Hot deep"
galvanized, manufactured and applied according to norm NBR 5598. Use of conduits
without thread and junctions made with bolted accessories is allowed. The minimum
diameter must be W.
11.2 Condulets and other boxes must of cast aluminum.
11.3 Sleeves, covers and other accessories not of cast aluminum must have the same surface
treatment applied as for conduits.
11.4 In underground installation ducts type "CANAFLEX" with smooth (not corrugated) wall
should preferentially be used.
11.5 The use of non-metallic conduits and accessories is allowed for installations in protected
locals, as long as there are no other requirements.
11.6 In general the conduits may be visibly assembled.
11.7 The maximum distance between two Junction boxes / condulets in installations is 12 m in
linear lengths. In non-linear length the facility for laying the cables must be considered, but
also always limited to 12 meters.
11.8 The routes must always be designed considering access facility and safety of persons and
ducts/conduits. Installing near heat sources, pressurized lines or inflammable materials
should be avoided. Should this prove impossible, then the trays must be provided with
adequate protection.
